From the 2nd December 2020, tiers will be once again rolled out across the UK. Restrictions on the hospitality industry can differ quite significantly dependent on the tier in which you are placed. It is important for all food and drink businesses to know where you stand, and in turn make sure that your customers are aware of the restrictions too. This is something everyone needs to adhere to.

 

Tier 1 – Medium Alert

Hospitality businesses in the Tier 1 category must abide by the following:

1.     Provide table service only

2.     Stop taking orders after 10pm

3.     Close between 11pm and 5am (unless offering a click & collect, delivery or drive-through services)

 

Tier 2 – High Alert

Pubs and bars that fall in the Tier 2 category must close unless they are operating as a restaurant. Hospitality venues must only serve alcohol with substantial meals. If you are a hospitality venue serving substantial meals, then you must abide by the following restrictions:

1.     Provide table service only

2.     Stop taking orders after 10pm

3.     Close between 11pm and 5am (unless offering a click & collect, delivery or drive-through services)

 

Tier 3 – Very High Alert

All hospitality settings must close. There are permitted to continue sales through takeaway, click & collect, drive-through and delivery services.

Customers are then able to choose the delivery option before placing their order. This reduces the number of touchpoints by allowing customers to make their selections and pay before the order is sent to you. This reduces the need for cash handling upon delivery and allows your business to exploit contactless delivery options.
